The Role of Auxiliaries in Textiles (1.SPINNING)

Introduction:-

The processing of fibres form the fibre stage to the yarn and fabric stage involves various treatments which begin at the fibre stage and finally end at the finishing stage. During the various individual processes, ti becomes necessary to treat the material in a suitable manner to make the material more amenable for the subsequent processes. Fibres require to be properly treated in order that they become suitable for being converted into yarns. The first treatment starts at the fibre stage itself. Sometimes, it is desired to give certain treatments during the various manufacturing stages of spinning, weaving, winding, warping, sizing, and wet processing. Any treatment can be rendered more satisfactory by the aid of secondary chemicals and these chemicals. Thus, we find the use of such auxiliary chemicals in the processing of fibres, yarn and fabrics. In this paper are described same of the salient features of the uses of auxiliaries at the different manufacturing stages.

I.) SPINNING:-

In order that to fibres become amenable for satisfactory spinning, it is desirable that they should be conditioned before they can be taken up for the further processes of lap formation, carding etc. The conditioning is mostly done in the form of spraying the loose fibres at the mixing stage. Generally this is done after the bale breaking process. The spray is generally of water but, it is observed that more satisfactory results can be obtained if the use if made of auxiliary substances like Cotton Spray Oil, silica emulsions, or antistatic agent in the case of synthetic fibres. Thus we come across the first use of auxiliaries in the textile industry. From here onwards one finds auxiliaries being used at different stages of the manufacturing processes, for obtaining desired results.
