Slubbing is often left unwashed, or else is given a light washing and rinse. Yarn normally contains lubricants which have been added to assist spinning. Wool pieces are often scoured in a dolly machine, which is a wooden trough containing surfactant and soda ash and fitted with heavy squeeze rollers. A trough underneath leads away dirty liquor.
