Phthalogens are the precursors for phthalocyanines produced on cotton by dyeing and printing. The intermediate diiminoisoindoline (701) is mixed with certain additives such as copper salts and a organic solvent and the mixture is printed or padded on to cotton, on drying or steaming the metal phthalocyanine is formed in situ.
