150 Kg of dimethylaniline is added to a 4,000 litre bricklined kettle provided with a wooden stirrer, followed by 183 Kg. of 78% sulphuric acid and 750 Kg. ice. The contents are diluted to 1.650 litres with ice and water. During 6 hours 215 Kg. of 40% sodium nitrite mixed with 260 litres of 25% sodium chloride solution are added and the final temperature of 00C is reached. The contents are agitated for 1 hour and 131 Kg. of 78% sulphuric acid is added.
