DYEING PROCEDURE

DYEING PROCEDURE

by : --

A stock dispersion was prepared by milling a mixture of I (1.0 g) and distilled water (10 ml) for 24 h, followed by dilution to 100 ml with distilled water. The dispersion was subjected to ultrasonic mixing before use.
Dyebaths were prepared by diluting the stock dispersion (20 ml) with distilled water (580 ml). Nylon 6 film (1.0 g) was stretched over an aluminium frame and imersed in the  dispersion. The dyebath was then raised to the boil over 30 min, and maintained at 1000C for 90 min, continuous stirring. The dyed film was rinsed in cold water, dried between two sheets of absorbent paper, and stored in a desiccator.
For dyeing at 1200C, the stock dispersion (10 ml ) was diluted to 100 ml with distilled water in a stainless steel pot, and the film (o.15 g) was introduced. The pots were sealed and enclosed in a heated bath at 1000C. The temperature was raised to 1200C over 10 min, and the temperature maintained at 1200C for 75 min. The dyebath was agitated throughout the dyeing cycle. The film was removed and thoroughly rinsed in cold water to ensure removal of surface dye, and then dried in a desiccator.
