4-Acetamidobenzenesulphonylazide

by : --

A solution of 4-acetamidobenzenesulphonyl chloride (80.5 g, 0.345 mol) in acetone (11) was treated with a solution of sodium azide (50.0 g, 0.77 mol) in water (500 ml), and the mixture stirred at room temperature for 20 h. the acetone was removed under reduced pressure, and the residual aqueous suspension filtered. The solid was dried and recrystallized from benzene, giveing 4-acetamido benzenesulphonylazide as white crystals, m.p. 1130C (lit. [5] 113-1140C) in 60% yield.
