Vat Dyes

Based on chemical constitution, vat dyes may be broadly classified into two main sub-classes-anthraquinonoid and indigold vat dyes. In the former, one or more quinone (C=O) groups act as the chromophores and groups such as benzamido, amino, methoxy and other groups act as auxochrome. However, certain quinone compounds such as dibenz-pyrene quinone, pyranthrone, dibenzanthrone (also called violanthrone), isodibenzanthrone (isoviolanthrone) etc.
